How NearbyNotary content is researched, reviewed and corrected

This page explains who writes the guides, which sources they rely on, how directory listings are compiled, how errors are fixed, and how advertising is kept separate from editorial decisions. It was last updated on 14 September 2026.

Who writes the guides

Neil Sarker

Founder and editor, NearbyNotary

Neil Sarker started NearbyNotary in 2025 after helping a family member work through a long list of Commissioners for Oaths to find one within reach. He builds and maintains the site, writes every guide, and handles correction requests personally.

Neil is not a lawyer, a Notary Public or a Commissioner for Oaths, and NearbyNotary is not a law firm. The guides describe public processes in plain language so readers can ask better questions. They are not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional or for the instructions of the organisation that will receive a document.

How a guide is researched

Every guide starts from primary Singapore sources: the Singapore Courts pages on Commissioner for Oaths services and statutory declarations, the Singapore Academy of Law legalisation portal and FAQ, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance on legalisation, the Notaries Public Act and Rules and the Commissioners for Oaths Rules on Singapore Statutes Online, and the Hague Conference status table for the Apostille Convention.

Where a guide touches another agency, such as the Office of the Public Guardian, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority or the Singapore Police Force, that agency’s own page is cited. Every guide lists its sources at the end so readers can check the current rule before acting.

Guides are written in the author’s own words. Nothing is copied from other websites, and no guide is generated without the author reading each cited source and deciding what a reader in Singapore actually needs to know.

Review dates and updates

Each guide shows a published date and, where it has been revised, a review date. Guides are re-checked against their sources when a reader reports a change, when an official page cited in the guide changes, and at least once a year. Fee figures are quoted from the relevant schedule or FAQ as at the review date and are labelled as such.

How directory listings are compiled

Professional names, appointment types, firms, addresses, telephone numbers and listed languages are taken from the public Singapore Academy of Law directory. Map coordinates, websites, opening hours and public ratings are added from Google Places where available. Listings are included because they appear in the public source, never because a firm paid. NearbyNotary does not rank professionals by quality and does not accept payment for placement.

Official SAL directory

Corrections

Anyone can report an error through the contact page. Reports that cite the SAL directory, an official page or a firm announcement are handled first. Factual corrections to a guide are made in the text and the review date is updated. Listing corrections are checked against the public source before the directory is changed. Requests to remove a listing from a professional who no longer holds the appointment are honoured once the SAL record reflects the change.

Advertising and independence

NearbyNotary is free to use and may display advertising served by Google AdSense to cover hosting, map and data costs. Advertisers have no influence over which guides are written, what they say, or which professionals appear in the directory. Advertisements are labelled as such by the ad platform and are kept separate from editorial content and from directory results. NearbyNotary does not sell leads, does not take referral fees from listed firms and does not receive payment for appointments booked with any professional.

What this site does not do

  • It does not give legal advice or tell you which document you need.
  • It does not confirm that any professional is available, or quote their fees.
  • It does not guarantee that a foreign organisation will accept a document.
  • It does not take bookings, payments or referral fees.
